Abstract:
This research aims 1) To reveal the level of emotional
intelligence education students who are having educational problems and subjects of class X
SMAN 2 Pekanbaru before is given group counseling services. 2) To reveal the level of
emotional intelligence of students who are having problems of education and classroom
lessons after X SMAN 2 Pekanbaru is given group counseling services. 3) To determine
differences in levels of emotional intelligence of class X students of SMAN 2 Pekanbaru
conducted before and after the group counseling. 4) To determine the effect of group
counseling on level of emotional intelligence students who are having educational problems
and subjects of class X SMAN 2 Pekanbaru before and after the implementation of group
counseling. The tools of data collection is used the form of questionnaires. The population in
this study are students who are having the educational problems and subjects of class X
SMAN 2 Pekanbaru 16 people. The determination of sampling consider the students who
have emotional intelligence score are medium (total sampling). The description of emotional
intelligence before giving the group counseling in a medium category is 100%. The
description of emotional intelligence after giving the group counseling in a medium category
is 87.5%, and higher category is 12.5%. Based on the result of the correlation coefficient

there are significant of group counseling on improving emotional intelligence students who
