Abstract
The Mackintosh Probe is a lightweight dynamic penetrometer and a considerably faster and cheaper than boring tool, particularly when the depth of exploration is moderate and the soils being investigated are soft. Popularity of this method in Indonesia is low. Therefore, correlation between Mackintosh Probe and shear strength rarely found for soft soil.
On this research, field test and laboratory test were performed. The field test consist of Mackintosh Probe test, Vane Shear test and Hand Bore. Meanwhile, laboratory test consist of physical properties of soil such as water content, unit weight, plasticity and specific gravity were explored. Triaxial test was explored too. The data are arranged and analyzed for correlations.
The result shows that the test specimen is organic material with highly water content. The correlation which was obtained from the result showed the relationship correlation between M and Su, M and c, M and ϕ also w and M. Triaxial test result showed a weak relationship than Vane Shear test result. This research shows that Mackintosh Probe not compatible for using in soft soil where located in coastal area.
