Abstract:
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases, the characteristic
is hyperglycemia that causes by abnormality of insulin secretion, insulin action or
both of it. Insulin is a therapy of type 2 DM. Data of International Diabetes
Federation showed that using insulin therapy in type 2 DM patient in Indonesia
was classified low. This study aimed to determine the benefits and barriers of
insulin therapy in perspective type 2 DM patient. Design of this study is
descriptive was done with interview and collected data from medical record to 43
type 2 DM patients who received intensive insulin therapy and combination OHO
and insulin basal therapy. The result of this study showed that barriers of insulin
therapy in perspective type 2 DM patient was psychological insulin resistance.
Benefits of insulin therapy in perspective type 2 DM patient was reached purpose
of DM therapy, that consist of sense healthy and comfortable, lost of DM’s
symptoms, decrease of blood glucose rate although criteria DM control of fasting
blood glucose and postprandial blood glucose in bad category, blood pressure in
moderate, lipid profile and IMT in good category. Conclusion of this study is
barrier of insulin therapy was psychological insulin resistance and benefit was
reached purpose of DM therapy.
