The Distribution of Coral Pocillopora damicornis in Sikuai Island of Padang City, West Sumatra

Abstract
This study was carried out in June 2012. It took place in the coastal waters of
Sikuai Island in the West Sumatra Province. Survey method on coral study was
used and nine stations with three sampling points each were chosen for data
collection. These data were counted by using quadratic transect with 4 x 4 m2 in
size. The results showed that P. demicornis are clustered about 52 m from the
shoreline reaching 0.5 m depth at the station I. Similar feature of distribution was
also seen at the station III, however, none was found at the station II. Coral
coloniesof P.damicornisfound on the station I amounted to 59 colonies with an
average diameter of 16.7, and the size range 1-23 cm, where as colonies on third
station number 25with an average diameter of 10.65 and sizes range from1-25cm.
