Abstract:
Forest area in Nagari Silokek is a natural forest that holds natural beauty and has a
relatively high diversity of butterflies. This forest area has a lot type of habitat resulting in
various butterfly species. This study aimed to identify and invent the butterflies of the Sub
Order Rhopalocera based on morphological characters in Silokek Sijunjung forest in West
Sumatera. The study used exploration method by direct capture using an insect net. We
observed head, chest, legs, abdomen and wings of butterfly samples. The results obtained
26 species from 83 individuals. The number of species and individuals of Rhopalocera
butterflies was dominated by Nymphalidae family. The varied morphological characters of
butterflies were found in the antennae, color of chest, abdomen and legs. The key
characters were found on color patterns of wing (spotted, eyespot, plain, and color bands)
and shape of the edges at lower wing and the tip of the upper wing.
