Abstract:
Research on testing elasticity of paving blocks has been done to determine the
value of modulus elasticity using a sonic wave analyzer (SOWAN). The sample
were shaped using a PVC pipe with 1.5 inch in diameter and 10 cm of length and
then dried for 28 days. There were five samples in this research with different
sand-cement ratios, after that the wave propagation times for each sample were
measured and the speed of sound wave in the samples was calculated. The
research results showed that the largest modulus of elasticity was obtained by
sand-cement of (1:1) i.e 39.87 N/m2 with primary wave speed of 1.45 x103
m/s, secondary wave speed of 1.20 m/s and value of compressive strength
of 22.37 N/m2. The sample with a value of modulus elasticity the lowest
was 9.86 N/m2 with primary wave speed of 1.03x103 m/s, secondary wave
speed of 0.87 x103 m/s and compressive strength as much as 7.23 x106 N/m2.
