Abstract:
Estafet writing or write chain is learning by doing or learning actively involves students actively
writing poetry, rhymes and poems in a way or chain together. The purpose of this research is to
improve the skills of writing poetry freely in class V Elementary School 17 Pekanbaru with the
application of the relay writing. Quantitative data in the form of free poetry writing skills test
students through the end of the cycle replicates of two cycles. Based on the analysis of the
preliminary data obtained average values of 54.2 and the UAS I increased to 70.41 (an increase of
29.91%). Furthermore, the UAS II increased to 80.62 (an increase of 48.7%). Activities
observations of teachers in the first cycle the percentage is 60% (enough categories) increased to
72.5% (both categories). In the second cycle the percentage is 80% (very good category)
increased to 92.5% (very good category), while the activity of the percentage of students in the
first cycle was 52.5% (category enough) increased to 60% (enough categories) in cycle II the
percentage is 75% (both categories) increased to 90% (very good category.) It can be concluded
that the application of the model estafet writing can improve writing skills students are free poetry
class Vb . Elementary School 17 Pekanbaru.
