Abstract:
This study aims to determine the factors that influence people's attitudes towards patients with mental disorders. This research method using a method that is descriptive correlation design, with a total sample of 99 respondents. Measuring instrument used was a questionnaire with 28 statements developed by researchers. The analysis is used univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi-square test. The results showed that the culture, the mass media, past experiences, educational institutions, and those that are considered important influencing public attitudes towards patients with mental disorders, as evidenced by p value <α (0.000 <0.05). As for the emotional variables did not affect attitudes towards patients with psychiatric disorders with the results p value> α (0.184> 0.05). Based on the results of this study are expected to provide information such as the health center for counseling on mental health to the community to increase knowledge about public attitudes towards patients with mental disorders.
