Abstract:
A disaster is an event that can not be avoided of human life . Disasters can be caused by
natural factors (earthquakes, tsunami, floods, volcanic eruptions, landslides, hurricanes) and
non-natural factors such as the failure of technology and human error. Seismic events until
now difficult to predict, so that efforts can be done is through mitigation of disaster risk
reduction. This research aims at answering the question as to what are constitutes Factors
affecting the community adaptation in mitigating earthquake and tsunami in Padang .The
method used in this research is descriptive research method, with a qualitative approach.
The purpose of this research are to find of the factors that influence the adaptation of the
earthquake and tsunami mitigation in Padang .The research results is to explain that the
cultural aspects into indigenous communities play a huge role in mitigating earthquake and
tsunami. Broadly speaking indigenous peoples in the face of the earthquake and tsunami
poured with passing knowledge, social control and to take concrete steps to adapt to disasters
