Abstract
Amoxicillin is a β-lactam antibiotic derived from aminopenicillin which is
bactericidal and inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. The existence of amoxicillin
that spread in nature needs to be researched whether its presence in nature can
interfere the growth of biological plants, one of which in this study is fungi. This
study aims to examine the effect of the antibiotic amoxicillin on the growth of
white-rot fungi Trametes hirsuta D7 and its laccase activity. The results indicated
that the addition of amoxicillin had no effect on the growth rate of Trametes hirsuta
D7. The addition of amoxicillin at concentrations of 100 and 300 ppm resulted in a
maximum growth rate of 1.48 ± 0.05 cm/day. Furthermore, the maximum biomass
and laccase activity were 0.221 ± 0.015 g and 0.025 ± 0.006 U/mL, respectively.
This study shows that Trametes hirsuta D7 have the potential to be used to degrade
amoxicillin.
